For the sixth consecutive year, Bellingham Council organizing a trip to the annual March for Life in Olympia, which will be held on Tuesday, January 19. The vans will depart from the Assumption parking lot at 6:00am.
Sign-ups for the trip to the March for Life are being taken at Assumption and Sacred Heart parishes. To offset the cost of the van rental, riders are asked to donate $25. Students or others who can’t afford to contribute can ride for any donation or none at all. At the November meeting, the council voted to subsidize those who cannot afford the full cost.
The first stop of the trip will be at St. Martin’s University in Lacey where we will join hundreds of others at the 9:30Mass for Life, celebrated by Archbishop Peter Sartain and concelebrated by Bishop Eusebio Elizondo and about 20 priests. From there the bus will take marchers to the state capitol, joining thousands of others. On the steps of the capitol and Supreme Court building attendees will hear speeches of several legislators, clergymen, and others.
2016 marks 46 years since abortion was made legal (but not moral) in Washington, with the passage of Referendum 20. This state legalized abortion three years before the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision by the US Supreme Court. By attending the Olympia March for Life you can do your part in making abortion illegal again. This year, Bishop Anthony Daly of Spokane has instituted a March for Life in that city, also on January 19. The annual March for Life in Washington, DC, will take place on January 22 and the Walk for Life in San Francisco will be held January 23.
